Halloween’s just around the corner, and the air’s tinged with just the right amount of spook and fun! In the spirit of the season, I’ve sifted through a myriad of apps to bring you a curated list of Halloween-inspired educational apps perfect for young learners. Ah, yes, the aim isn’t just to sugar-coat learning with Halloween elements but to create an immersive experience that makes acquiring new skills as thrilling as a trick-or-treat adventure!
We’re talking interactive storybooks that breathe life into classics, games that ignite the imagination, and activities that foster creativity while offering just the right amount of chills and thrills. You see, as an educator, I’m all for repackaging education into something that’s not just a chore but an actual fun, memorable experience.

1- The Legend of Sleepy Hollow iC (Age 12+)
iClassics brought the classic American tale, Legend of Sleepy Hollow to life using interaction, animations, and illustrations. Some of the main features of the app include: 80 sound effects, 67 animations, 50 interactive scenes, 53 minute soundtrack 52 illustrations and more. Students can use the table of contents to easily jump to any page in the book. They can also use the Memory pages to bookmark their pages and more.
2- Berenstain Bears – Ghost Walk (Ages 4-8)
In this interactive Ebook, kids join the Berenstain Bears as they prepare for the Bear Country School’s halloween ghost walk. Students can record their own narration to personalize the story. As they engage with the book, students will get to develop key literacy skills and learn new vocabulary with tappable words and pictures, and many more.
4- Weirdwood Manor (Ages 9-11)
This is a story of 3 kids each one of them has marvellous skills. Oliver, the orphan kid, is skilled at drawing; Celia is a gifted writer, and Eugene loves making gadgets. “The children win a trip to Weirdwood Manor to meet their reclusive hero — the eccentric writer and inventor, Arthur Weirdwood.
Naturally, there’s also a robot butler, a ghost boy who haunts the Manor, and a librarian with more than a couple secrets of her own to hide.” The purpose of the story is to ‘to inspire children to celebrate their uniqueness, recognize their talents, and embrace their imagination.’

This is an excellent Halloween Art game which allows kids to engage in creative drawing experiences. The “app comes with 30+ tutorials that walk you through the process step-by-step, or allows you to draw a car freely as you wish. You can decorate the car with thirteen different colors.
Other add-ons include 25 sets of tires that can be customized in size and spacing, a lots halloween-theme stickers and lights for more flair. Once You are happy with their vehicle, you can then use it on one of 21 roads. Each road is a mini game and there are spooky obstacles to watch out for along the way!”

12. Plants vs. Zombies
Plants vs. Zombies is an engaging game in which kids get to use their limited greens and seeds reserves to soil plants and eliminate zombies before they break in into their doors. The game is full of suspense and fun. There are 26 types of zombies prying around and ready to attack.
Kids mission is to use their zombie-zapping plants to abort zombies attention before it takes place. As the fight with zombies gets heated, kids draw back on their thinking skills to find solutions and use their arsenal of plants strategically.
