Given that interaction with the client is a ubiquitous element of doing business, telecommunications are an indispensable attribute in ensuring success. Given the recent evolutions in technology, a lot of value has been brought to this field, enabling significantly greater coverage, more flexibility, more technical possibilities, but also significantly smaller costs for telecommunication. In fact, some of these changes have simply transformed the very way business is done. Among these are:
- SIP trunking;
- DID numbers;
- toll-free numbers
SIP Trunking
Among the great advantages offered by Internet calls one can list the possibility to integrate other types of multimedia content (file transfers, video conferencing, etc.) and the possibility to connect different countries at really small costs (the traditionally expensive instead of VoIP handsets or computers, the calling experience is almost the same as with traditional phones.
DID Numbers
A DID number is a virtual number which acts as a local one in a given country, region,
city, etc. and is not inherently associated with a telephone line. Calls to DID numbers could be
directed to landline/ mobile networks or through the web (as VoIP calls). The key advantage
offered by this technology is that a company can establish such local numbers in several
regions/nations without the need to connect to the local landline / mobile phone systems or to
waste significant effort in adapting to the local communication infrastructure.
Allowing to connect the company to different regions at low costs turns out to be an
important advantage for the company in terms of logistics. Thus, there is no need for call-
answering employees to be located in each area or region of interest. Rather, these all can be
concentrated at the same (or a few) headquarters, saving infrastructure-related costs and
increasing efficiency and interaction within the company.
Toll-Free Numbers
Toll-Free numbers are free for clients to call – all expenses for such calls are undertaken
by the party that receives the call. This allows clients to have the peace of mind that they won’t
be charged for placing a long call or a call to a distant geographic region. Usually, such numbers
are valid within a given country but sometimes they can also act internationally.
To conclude, the technologies described representing a valuable qualitative leap in client-business communication, so much so, that their adoption is a must and even a matter of survival for companies relying heavily on such communication.
