As is the case with Educational Web Tools section here in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning, I have recently created another section where I will be featuring the new educational iPad apps. This biweekly list will feature some of the new iPad apps I discover through other teachers’ blogs and websites. Below is the selection I compiled for you today comprising some of the educational iPad apps that have been making rounds online for the last couple of weeks.
1- GroupMaker
GroupMaker is a good app for quickly creating diverse groups. Organize groups based on gender, performance level, or ethnicity. You can also just randomly mix everyone up into groups of 1-20 depending on your needs.
2- Tell a Tale
Sit down with family or friends and take turns telling tales. Tell a Tale invites you to a realm of words and images, where your own stories will sprout in all directions. You’ll get the first and the last sentence of a story, three pictures are added and the rest is up to you.
3- Moredays
Moredays is the first time management tool based on images and graphics. Part digital planner and organizer, part scrapbook, Moredays helps you organize your life with pictures, doodles and sketches as you would using a paper planner.
4- Timer+
Set multiple timers at once! Time by the second, minute or hour. Runs in the background so you’re free to use other apps. Comes with 7 alarms. “One of the most useful apps.” – Pocketable
5- Pairting for Early Science
Pairing for Early Science” helps children get a start on knowing basic science related vocabulary. It teaches children words for fruit and vegetables, body parts, animals – and the noises they make. With this knowledge, children can start asking basic questions about the world around them, preparing them for the next stage in their scientific education.
6- Endless Alphabet
Set the stage for reading success with this delightfully interactive educational app. Kids will have a blast learning their ABC’s and building vocabulary with the adorable monsters in Endless Alphabet. Each word features an interactive puzzle game with talking letters and a short animation illustrating the definition. Before you know it, your child will be using words like gargantuan and cooperate!
7- Stage: Interactive Whiteboard and Document Camera
Stage is an exciting teaching and demonstration tool that students and educators can use to share ideas and interact with curriculum. Use the iPad camera to display live video of objects, textbooks, student work, and other projects, and sketch, write, label, or laser point in real-time. With options like storing labels, recording, and wireless connection to a projector via Airplay, Stage makes lessons fully interactive, collaborative, and engaging
8- iHowTo-Book
iHowTo-Book is an interactive children’s book application that enables all children to read a book independently. Unlike other children’s books, this application focuses on teaching children the skills of Activities for Daily Living (ADL). It provides natural, calm voices with beautiful original artwork.
9- PianoMania
The Ultimate Piano Practice Game, featuring hundreds of songs! Enter an addictive and fun music journey while playing your own acoustic or electric PIANO. No wires or adapters needed! Download Piano Mania to your iPad, place it on your piano/keyboard and play away! No piano? No problem! TOUCH MODE also available.
