Be Internet Awesome is one of our favourite resources for learning about online safety and digital citizenship. It features a wide variety of resources designed by Google in partnership with experts in digital safety such as iKeepSfe, ConnectSafety, and Family Online Safety Institute, to help kids and students become informed explorers of the digital world. Kids will get to learn about personal privacy and security issues involved in the use of the web, receive training on how to discern the fake from the real in digital content, learn how to communicate in a responsible way, and many more.
Be Internet Awesome features curricular materials to be used with students in class. There are pre-made lesson plans, educational activities, and several other materials explaining what digital citizenship is all about.
The site also offer games that tackle different aspects of how to be a safe and confident user of the Internet. For instance, Interland is one popular game offered by Internet Awesome “that puts the key lessons of digital safety into hands-on practice with four challenging games.” The game is web-based and does not require no software installation or subscription. Students can play the game, learn the fundamentals of digital citizenship and get their score.
