Google Meet has made a big hit with teachers and educators particularly since the outbreak of the pandemic. In a relatively short period of time, this video conferencing platform became one of the popular and also trusted online teaching/ learning tools with a mounting number of teachers hosting their online classes on it. With the growing demand on its services, Google Meet introduced a number of interesting features that transformed the platform into a powerful educational tool. In today’s post, I am sharing with you three features you can use on Google Meet to liven your online classes and engage your students in interactive learning experiences.
1- Breakout rooms
This is definitely one of the best features in Meet. As a teacher, you have the option to divide your class into small manageable groups and arrange them in rooms where they engage simultaneously in collaborative team work. Being a moderator, you can easily control who can share your screen, send messages, and many more.
2- Question-and-Answer feature
With this relatively new feature, you can make your lessons interactive by allowing students to ask live questions. And yes you can control which questions to show or hide and you also have the option to enable or disable the question submission feature at any time. “Students can post their questions to a queue and other students can upvote questions so the teacher knows which to answer first.”
3- Polling
The polling feature allows you to gather important feedback from students regarding their learning progress, check their comprehension, engage them in decision making around matters related to their learning, and many more. It is also one of the convenient ways to conduct formative assessment and collect data to help you further enhance the quality of your teaching and lesson planning.
