An Important Google Sheets Tip for Teachers

Google Sheets has this wonderful feature that allows you to link to content in specific cells. This is especially helpful if you have a long spreadsheet with several cells. You can easily create links to different cells making it easier for anyone checking out your sheet to easily navigate and move around your file.‘With this new functionality, you can create a “table of contents” for your spreadsheet, direct others to specific content within your spreadsheet, and retain links to cells when you import spreadsheets from other applications.’

Here is how to create links in a spreadsheet:
  • Open a spreadsheet
  • ‘Click where you want the link, or highlight the text that you want to link.
  • Click Insert and then Link.
  • In the "Text" field, type the text you want to be linked.
  • In the "Link" field, enter a URL or email address, or search for a website.
  • Click Apply.’
Here is how to link to a range of cells in a spreadsheet:
  • ‘Open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
  • Select the cell you want to link.
  • Click Insert and then Link.
  • Click Select a range of cells to link Grid. 
  • Select the range of cells you want to link to.
  • Click Apply.’
