ActiveHistory features a wide variety of educational materials designed specifically for use in history classrooms. These include award-winning interactive simulations, decision-making games, self-marking quizzes, high-quality worksheets and detailed lesson plans”. ActiveHistory also “provides materials on scores of topics from the Middle Ages to the present day, aimed at every age range between 11-18 years.”
Most of the materials and activities shared on ActiveHistory have been designed with the classroom in mind and are “continually amended after being tried out in class by [Russel Tarr himself] and other visitors.” Resources are arranged into four main age categories: 11-14, 14-16, 16-18. Under the category ‘Other’ history teachers will find a host of other important materials that include: video and book recommendations, TedTalks for historians, historians and history teachers on Twitter, Google Earth for history, and many more. The site also features some really helpful educational tools such as Plagiarism Checker, Essay Planning tool, Essay Marking tool, Harvard Citation Generation tool, among others.
