A popular we often hear is that creative minds think out of the box, but what about thinking inside the box but in novel and unprecedented ways, isn’t that creative thinking? Creativity is like intelligence, an enigmatic topic around which debate never settled. However, one thing we know for sure is that creativity is a learned process and anyone can pick it up if provided with the right environment and tools and surrounded with people with a growth mindset.
In this beautiful slideshow, Wallner Mark shed more light on the nature of creative thinking. Below are some of the highlights I noted while I was leafing through its content :
According to Robert Epstein (senior research psychologist at the American Institute for Behavioural Research ), there are four core competencies of the creative process :
- Preserve your new ideas
- Surround yourself with interesting people
- Tackle through problems
- Expand your knowledge
Evangelia Chrysikou ( assistant professor of psyhology at the university of Kansan) proposes a few measurements to boost creativity and innovation :
- Become an expert
- Observe your environment
- Know your audience
- Step out of your comfort zone
- Be willing to work alone
- Talk to outsiders
- Have fun
- Take a nap and let your mind wander
- Take a break
- Challenge yourself
