UMapper is a great mapping tool for educators. It allows its users to create and manage interactive maps and geogames online. These maps can be shared with others or be embedded in blogs and websites. This can be a very good tool for Geography teachers. They can use it to create flash maps to share with their students or even assign students to create their own based on what was taught in a previous lesson.
How can I get started using UMapper ?
It is very easy to use and has a user friendly interface. Just head over to UMapper main page and click on’ start mapping’ button. Type in the Map info like its title and description then choose the map provider you want. It supports Google maps, Bing maps, OpenStreet Map, CloudMade, and Yahoo Maps. If you have a custom map stored somewhere in your computer you can upload it tool but this feature is available only for members.
Now click on ‘Templates’ to select the template you want to use for your map then adjust its settings whether you want to share it with the public or keep it private just for you. Once finished with the customization click on submit and there you are with your own created map.
