Two Great iPad Timeline Apps for Hisrory and Social Studies Teachers

Timelines are a great way to teach students about relevant topics in discrete bits. While they are mainly used in History and Social Studies classes, anyone can easily create a content timeline and share it with students. Here is a set of some practical iPad apps to help you do so.

Below are two wonderful free timelines on American Revolution and Titanic I picked out for you. Check them out and share with your students.

1- American Revolution Timeline


This app which is designed specifically for iPad features the main important events that marked the Aemrican revolution in a very graphically rich timeline. It provides videos, images via an interactive timeline displaying artwork, weapons, clothing, objects, and manuscripts from the Center’s collection.

2- Titanic Timeline


This is another wonderful interactive timeline that provides users with an in-depth picture of the process of building the biggest moving object of its time. This app allows you to watch this ship being rebuilt in a simulated time lapse.

Two Awesome Interactive Timeline Apps for iPad

Timelines are a great way to showcase the development of a certain phenomena over time like, for instance, a historical event, an educational theory, a revolution...etc. As teachers and educators, we can have recourse to these tools to create illustrative timelines to share with our students in class. There are now several web tools that are free to use and which will let you create your first timeline in a matter of a few clicks. Today I am sharing with you two other timeline apps I recently discovered:

1- American Revolution Interactive Timeline for iPad


Designed specifically for iPad, the app offers beautiful imagery, video, and information through an interactive, zoomable timeline showcasing artwork, weapons, clothing, objects, and manuscripts from the Center’s collection. Image captions and video podcasts provide an overview of key milestones of the American Revolution.

2- Minds of Modern Mathematics

The Minds of Modern Mathematics takes you on an interactive journey that spans nearly 1,000 years. It tells the story of mathematics and how it has impacted almost every aspect of human progress, from science to music, art, architecture, and culture.

Minds of Modern Mathematics is a digital recreation of a 50-foot-wide wall installation that was part of the groundbreaking 1961 Mathematica exhibition sponsored by IBM and designed by the legendary design team, Charles and Ray Eame

5 Great iPad Apps to Create Timelines

There is a scarcity of timeline apps in iTunes market and it took me awhile to compile the list below. I have already shared a web version of such tools in a post entitled The Best Timeline Creation Tools for teachers but never had it in my mind to compile a mobile version till one of my readers her in Educational Technology and Mobile Learning contacted me a week ago asking for apps to create learning timelines for her students. I did a lot of sifting and came up with the list below. If you know of other apps that can be added to the list please share them in the comment form below. Enjoy
