Google has recently launched a great new service geared towards education. This is called YouTube Curriculum and is designed to help students learn about digital citizenship ( I will soon post a guide on digital citizenship here). It is quite obvious that Google released this new service as a response to Apple's launch of webcast series for educators. There is an ongoing heated competition between the two companies to invest more and more in education and that gives us more options to choose from.
YouTube Curriculum aims at supporting teachers and educators in teaching students on how to stay safe online and become confident model netizens. This initiative has also several others goals such as :
- develop digital literacy skills on YouTube
- Learn about YouTube policies
- Teach students how to report content
- Teach students how to protect their own privacy and how to be responsible YouTube community members
The lessons included in YouTube Curriculum comes in with guidelines for teachers and ready made slides for presentation. YouTube Curriculum has a Channel where videos related to the topic are posted.
