Web 2.0 technologies have made map creation an easy job for both teachers and students. It is no longer that hard task that requires a set of complicated skills . Now with just some few clicks you can get your map up and running. You might be probably thinking now about Google Maps and Google Earth. Well these are among my favourites too but they are not the only ones out there. There are , in fact, a wide variety of much more simpler and free tools that do not even require any registration to use them.

UMapper is a great mapping tool for educators. It allows its users to create and manage interactive maps and geogames online. These maps can be shared with others or be embedded in blogs and websites
This a tool that allows users to create overlay of standard maps like Google Maps, and Yahoo Maps and can also be visualized in 3D form.

This is another cool tool for teachers to create maps. Build A Map is powered by Google Maps and provides a wide range of tools to easily build interactive online maps.
4- World Map
This one here is being developed by Center for Geographic Analysis at Harvard University and allows users to easily build their own mapping portal and publish it to the world or to just a few collaborators.
5- Map Faire
This is a cool tool for teachers to create awesome maps and share them with their students. Map Faire has a simple and student friendly interface and is very easy to use.
This is a Google Maps editor that offers you a clever way to easily create and share your Google Maps .
7- Target Map
Target Map allows you to : easily create customized Data Maps on Google Maps, locate & see your Excel data on Google Maps, and share your knowledge with others.
8- Scribble Maps
This tool allows users to easily draw on maps and then share them with friends and colleagues. It is also very easy to use and offers some awesome features for free.
Animaps extends the My Maps feature of Google Maps by letting you create maps with markers that move, images and text that pop up on cue, and lines and shapes that change over time.
