Second Life is the new catch phrase that is making rounds in the educational spheres these days. Several researchers and academics are studying the potential of this tool in education and I just came across a great slideshow that is created by professor David, W Deeds and which coveres the best practices and ways to use Second Life.
Before you start browsing through the slideshow let me remind of you of what is Second Life all about. Well this is basically a virtual world developed by Linden Lab and was launched in 2003. This is a simulation of reality where citizens of this virtual world are avatars that can " socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and create and trade virtual property and services with one another." As of 2011 Second Life counts more than 25 million users.
Some of the students in the States and Canada have already started using Second Life to collaborate with each other in learning via setting up chat sessions and drawing out wireframe sketches for various projects . Anyway Here is a slideshow that will explain it all to you
